Description
Darnick Tower is a 16th-century structure that underwent restoration by Andrew Heiton from 1865 to 1867, with additional work completed in 1869. This tower is three stories high with an attic and features a small stair tower that projects to the south, creating a T-shaped plan. The building is constructed of rubble with freestone dressings. The main block is topped with a corbelled and crenellated parapet walk, which supports the attic storey. The stair wing has a gabled roof that includes a small chamber above the stair. The entrance is located on the east wall of the stair tower and has a lintel that is dated 1595. The tower features a crowstepped gable. Additionally, there is a small two-storey and attic wing on the east side, likely added in 1869, which has a two-bay south front and a tall crowstepped wallhead dormer at the centre of the attic.
