Description
Old House of Invermay, also known as Invermay House, is an A-listed building originally constructed in the late 16th century. It features a two-storey and attic L-plan design, with a distinctive three-storey rectangular stair tower that is corbelled out at the second level. The south front includes a semi-circular tower with a steep batter, and a dormer head was inserted in 1633 over a ground floor opening, which now has a swept top and may have originally been conical, possibly indicating a remnant of an earlier house.
On the north side, there is an outshot with dormer heads at the first floor that project beyond the line of the stair tower. The building is constructed of rubble and has crowstepped gables, with some parts having been restored. There is a scar on the west wing where a coach-house was located, dating to the mid-18th century, which features a semi-elliptical arch in the west gable, with crowsteps added in the 19th century. The northeast office wing has undergone significant alterations and has been recently restored.
