Description
The stables at Invermay House, likely designed by Alexander Laing shortly before or after 1801, were built in 1805. This classical, two-storey structure was intended to form a U-shaped courtyard, although the eastern and southern ranges were not constructed. The western front features a pedimented center and ends, with a two-storey segment-headed recess at the pitch. The building is constructed of rubble, partly with cherry cocking, and includes roundels in the spandrels. The courtyard has a two-window pediment, while the terminal pavilion of the northern wing features a ground semi-elliptical arch on the southern side and a two-storey shouldered flat arched recess with roundels in the spandrels on the eastern face. The stables are finished with rough ashlar and fine ashlar dressings, along with chamfered arrises.
