Abbey Place, Cloisters Road, Melrose

Abbey Place, located on Cloisters Road in Melrose, is a building from the earlier 19th century with later 19th century and recent additions. Originally, it had a rectangular shape with the main front facing south. In the later 19th century, it was extended to the west and north, forming an L-plan. The central door was moved to the east front, and a window was substituted. A canted bay window was added to the right at both the ground and first floors. The earlier work features whin rubble with droved freestone dressings, a gabled roof with straight skews, and rectangular block-corniced end-stacks. The later wings are two storeys tall, constructed of coursed squared rubble with droved dressing. There is a modern timber porch at the entrance and a sun-lounge extension to the southwest.
