Description

The Town Hall in Melrose was originally constructed by J and T Smith of Darnick in 1822 and later reconstructed in the 19th century. It is a two-storey building with four bays, featuring doors at the outer bays and windows on the first floor rather than at ground level. Above the memorial tablet, there is a 16th-century armorial panel from the Abbey positioned between the centre windows on the first floor. The building has a belfry located in the north gable, constructed from coursed squared rubble with a slated roof and straight skews.
