Description
17 Market Square in Melrose is a mid-19th century building that stands two storeys tall and features three bays facing Market Square. It has a recessed rounded angle and a gable that faces Abbey Street. The ground floor has a modern shop front. The building is adorned with a moulded cornice and a blocking course at the top of the front wall, with the cornice continuing around the corner, leading to a curved crow-stepped gable above. There is a door located at the ground floor corner, with a single window above it. The return side to Abbey Street includes a single window on each floor, and there is a rectangular cavetto corniced stack at the gable. The exterior is finished in droved ashlar with polished dressings, topped by a slated roof.
