Description
7 Rotten Row in Lauder is a terraced house built in the earlier to mid 19th century. It is two stories high with two bays and features a single storey and attic/single storey rear wing. The principal south elevation has a two-storey canted bay window and an open passageway that provides access to the rear. The south elevation and east gable are rendered and inscribed to imitate ashlar, while the rear north elevation is harled and the west gable is made of rubble.
On the principal south elevation, there is an entrance with a droved ashlar surround and a flat timber hood supported by consoles, located to the left of centre. The entrance has a panelled timber door with a glazed upper panel and a rectangular fanlight above. There is a window with an ashlar architrave above the entrance and a two-storey canted bay window to the right. To the outer left, there is a segmental-headed entrance with an ashlar surround leading to the passageway. The elevation features a rendered base course and a vertical margin to the right.
The north elevation has irregular and altered fenestration. Number 5 The Row projects forward to the left, while the entrance to the single storey section of Number 7 is on the right return. The single storey and attic section with a piended dormer adjoins the main body of the house.
The east elevation adjoins Number 9 The Row, and the west elevation adjoins Number 3 The Row. The principal south elevation has 8 and 4-pane timber sash and case windows, while the rear has various window styles. The house has a slate roof with a pair of rooflights on the south pitch and a stepped brick gablehead stack with a band course and round can on the east side.
The interior was not inspected in 1998.
