Description
2 Loan View in Lauder is a terrace of three cottages built in the earlier to mid 19th century. The building is two stories high and has seven bays. The principal (west) elevation is harled, except for No 2, which is rendered to imitate ashlar. The other cottages are constructed from whinstone rubble, with coursed whinstone rubble and ashlar dressings. The openings feature architraved surrounds, and the windows of No 2 have projecting cills.
On the principal elevation, No 2 is double-fronted, with an entrance located to the right of the center. This entrance features a panelled timber door with glazed upper panels, flanked by windows on each floor and one above. There is a droved margin to the left of this elevation. Nos 1 Loan View and 63 West High Street have entrances to the left and right, respectively. No 1 has a panelled timber door with glazed upper panels, while No 63 has a plain timber door with a glazed panel. Each of these cottages has a single window on the opposite side of each floor and one above.
The south elevation is made of coursed rubble and includes the original main entrance to No 63 West High Street on the left, which has a plain timber door, and a large shop display window on the right, with a single window centered above. This elevation adjoins 61 West High Street on the right.
The north elevation is a blank gable end, and the east elevation is also blank. The cottages feature four and twelve-pane timber sash and case windows, and the roof is covered with grey slate. Each cottage has a rubble ridge stack with a band course, including a gablehead stack for No 1, topped with round cans. The interiors were not inspected in 1998.
