3 London Road, Dalkeith

3 London Road in Dalkeith is a later 18th century, two-storey terrace originally consisting of three three-bay houses, with two bays added to the outer left shortly after its construction. The building is made of rubble with squared north elevation and features ashlar dressings, raised margins, and chamfered margins around the doors. An eaves course is present at lintel level.

The north elevation, facing London Road, is divided into three-bay houses (numbers 1 to 3 from the right), each with a central door and regular window arrangement. An additional door (number 4) has been inserted to the left of the house on the left. The two added bays on the outer left include a window on both the ground and first floors to the right, and a door (number 5) to the outer left. Above the door of number 3 is a pediment. Each door features steps leading up to it and letterbox fanlights. There is a blocked window between the central bays, which bears a modern plaque.

The south elevation includes a harled circular stair tower with a cat-slide roof in the second bay from the left, with steps leading up to a door (number 1A) on the west side and a window to the south. There is a forestair leading to a door in the fifth bay from the left and another door in the third bay from the right. The fenestration is largely regular.

On the west elevation, there is a window at both the ground and first floors to the left, along with a small window to the left of the gablehead. The east elevation features a stair window to the right of the center.

The windows throughout the building have a 12-pane glazing pattern in sash and case style. There are dormer windows on the south roof, with two for each house; those for numbers 1 and 2 are slate-hung and piended, while number 3 has a pointed arch with a Y-tracery glazing pattern. The roof is piended to the east, with coped mutual skews and a gable on the west side. The original scroll skewputt is located at the northwest corner. There are three mutual stacks that are harled, with the west gablehead stack being ashlar dressed rubble, and all stacks are corniced with ashlar.
