Description
47 West High Street in Lauder is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey and attic, single-fronted end of terrace cottage with a later addition. The exterior is harled with droved painted stone dressings and features a base course. The principal southwest elevation has architraved openings, with the entrance located to the left, consisting of a panelled timber door with a rectangular fanlight. There is a single window to the right on each floor and one above, with a vertical margin to the right arris.
On the northeast elevation, there is a late 20th-century single-storey concrete block wing that projects to the left, which may be a rebuilding of an earlier structure. This elevation also shows a pair of piended dormers in the attic. The southeast elevation has a single ground floor window to the right of the gable end, with another late 20th-century single-storey concrete block wing adjoining to the right. The northwest elevation adjoins No 49 West High Street.
The cottage features 12-pane timber sash and case windows and has a grey slate roof. The gablehead stack to the southeast has been rebuilt in brick in the late 20th century and shares a harled coped stack with No 49, which has round cans. The interior was not inspected in 1998.
