1 Barns Park, Ayr

1 Barns Park in Ayr is a later 19th-century, two-storey terrace consisting of 12 bays arranged as two pairs of mirrored houses. The building features polished ashlar stonework, which is channelled at the ground floor, with rubble on the sides. Architectural details include a base course, a dividing band course at the first floor that runs parallel with the block-pediments of the doorpieces, a cill course at the first floor, an eaves course, and a cornice. The second-floor windows have apron panels.

On the south elevation, there are steps leading to the central entrances of each pair of houses. Each entrance is framed by paired Doric porches with three columns and block pediments, which are fluted at Nos 3 and 4. The entrances have two-leaf timber doors with letterbox fanlights above. There are two single windows aligned above at the first floor, and two single windows at both floors in the remaining bays. To the outer right of No 3, there is a bipartite flat-roofed dormer.

The windows are 4-pane timber sash and case, although the dormer at No 3 has modern glazing. The roof is covered with grey slate and features stone skews, as well as gablehead and ridge stacks.

The interiors were not seen in 1998.

The property includes square-plan iron gatepiers with finials, iron railings that divide the boundary between Nos 1 and 2, and a low coped boundary wall enclosing the site.
