Description

The Ayr Ex-Servicemen's Club is an Italianate villa built around 1875, located on a corner site. It is two stories high and has three bays, featuring a three-stage recessed square-plan tower. The building is constructed from red coursed sandstone and includes a base course, dividing band course, eaves course, cornice, and arched keystoned openings on the first floor of the entrance elevation. The corners are accentuated with raised quoins.

On the west (entrance) elevation, there are steps leading to a columned doorpiece with a timber door and a letterbox fanlight. Above this, the tower has bipartite arched windows on both stages, topped with a piend roof. The central advanced bay has tripartite windows on both the ground and first floors, while the further advanced bay to the right features a semi-circular-plan bay window on both floors.

The south (Barns Park) elevation is three bays wide. It has single windows on both the ground and first floors in two recessed bays to the left, and an advanced bay to the right with a quadripartite window at ground level and a tripartite window on the first floor. There is a catslide addition to the outer right, and the rear of the building has deeply recessed bays.

The villa predominantly features plate glass timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, bracketed timber eaves, and truncated pitch stacks.

The interior was not seen in 1998. The property also includes a single square-plan gatepier with a pyramidal cap on the entrance elevation, timber gates for two vehicular entrances on the south elevation, and a coped boundary wall enclosing the site.
