Description
This building, located on Union Street in Galashiels, dates from the mid 19th to early 20th century and originally served as an engineering workshop and house, though it is now used as office space. The structure is arranged around a courtyard and is constructed of whinstone, with the front of the house squared, and features sandstone ashlar dressings.
The workshop is two stories tall and has seven bays. Its courtyard elevation includes three wide semicircular arches on the ground floor, with large multi-pane windows above. The roof is pitched and covered with purple slate.
The house is also two stories and has three bays, topped with a piended slate roof. It features bipartite windows on both the upper and lower left sides, and there is a single-storey extension on the outer left. Wallhead stacks are present.
The house predominantly has timber sash and case windows, while the former workshop features timber multi-pane top-hoppers.
The interior has been modernised throughout. Surrounding the property are high rubble boundary walls topped with semicircular ashlar coping, along with a 20th-century metal gate.
