Description

73 and 77 Kirk Brae is a tenement building dated 1888. It is three stories high with upper breaking eaves and features a nine-bay façade arranged in three groups of three. The building is set into a steep gradient site, with steps on each side providing exterior access to the rear upper floors. The exterior walls are made of coped angled rubble, and there are cast-iron railings leading to the entrance steps of the raised ground floors and bin stores. The doors to the middle floor are located in a rear pend, with walkways to the top floor that form arches above.

The building is constructed with stugged coursed ashlar, which includes raised rybats with stop-chamfered arises and canted stone cills. The rear is made of coursed whinstone rubble. It features a banded eaves course and pedimented stone dormers at the breaking eaves.

The windows are 4-pane timber sash and case types, although those at the lower levels are boarded up. The entrance doors are four-panel timber with small fanlights, and there are nine-pane cast-iron rooflights at the rear. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are ashlar coped skews and gabletted skew putts. The building has tall corniced ashlar end stacks with tall ventilator clay cans, cast-iron downpipes, and decorative cast-iron gutter brackets. Iron railings are present on all steps and stairways.

The interior has not been seen due to unknown ownership.
