Description

Woodbine Cottage, located at 10 Kingsmeadows Road in Peebles, is an early 19th-century house that was remodeled and extended in the mid-19th century, with a porch added in 1898. This two-storey, two-bay building was originally the schoolmaster's house and features a tall single-storey wing to the east, which was the former schoolroom, and a later two-storey wing to the west, along with a single-storey outbuilding to the west. The structure is built from whinstone rubble with ashlar dressings, and the west wing is made of coursed and squared rubble. The east wing and the upper floor of the main block have hoodmoulds.

On the north (front) elevation, the main block has a doorway to the left, leading to an elaborate porch with timber finials and bargeboards from the later 19th century. To the right is a window with a projecting stone lintel supported by plain brackets, and there are single windows on the first floor. The east wing has three bays with single windows, while the recessed west wing features a secondary doorway flanked by a single window, with a first-floor cross window that breaks the eaves in a dormer. There is also a garage door on the outbuilding.

The south (rear) elevation has three bays, with altered ground floor windows and first-floor windows that break the eaves, featuring cross windows. The east elevation includes a gabled secondary doorway to the east wing and small diamond-pane lattice windows, although the glazing has been removed from the ground floor at the rear. The roof is made of purple slate, with piend and platformed sections on the main block, and there is a wallhead stack on the east side.

The interior was not seen in 1994.
