Description

This early 20th century house at 20 Newtown Street in Duns is a two-storey, two-bay structure featuring a pend to the west. It is constructed of stugged cream coursed ashlar with polished dressings. The building has a base course, rounded angles that are corbelled to square with a course above the ground floor, and chamfered arrises. The ground floor has bipartite segmental headed windows, while the right bay is slightly advanced and gabled, showcasing three small stepped windows in the gablehead and a finial. On the first floor, a window to the left breaks the eaves with a gabled dormerhead. There is a gabled rubble return with a door at the ground level and a window on the first floor. The rear features a pair of piend-roofed dormers that also break the eaves.

The house has timber sash and case plate glass windows, a grey slate roof, and a corniced ashlar apex stack. The skews are ashlar coped, with gabletted corbel skewputts. Additionally, there are cast-iron rainwater heads and downpipes.

The boundary wall in front of the property is a low ashlar wall topped with saddleback ashlar coping, and it includes a wrought-iron pedestrian gate.
