Description
37 Newtown Street in Duns is an early 19th century, two-storey, three-bay terraced house. It is constructed from coursed cream sandstone with ashlar dressings, featuring a base course, quoin strips, and dentilled eaves. The front has regular fenestration with raised margins and consoled cills on the first floor. The entrance is highlighted by a Tuscan Doric pilastered doorpiece with a modillioned cornice, leading to a deep-set panelled door topped with an 8-pane rectangular fanlight. Notably, the centre window on the first floor is blind.
The rear elevation is irregular, also featuring three bays and a drum stair tower at the centre. The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass, consisting of four panes at the rear. The roof is covered with grey slates, and the eaves are ashlar coped, with brick stacks resting on ashlar bases.
