Description
85 Northgate in Peebles is likely an early 18th century, two-storey, three-bay house with a basement at the rear. The ground floor at the front is semi-sunk below street level. The front features lined render, while the rear and sides are finished in pebbledash, with raised margins around the openings and corners.
On the front elevation, there is a central doorway with a flush-panelled door that has the top three panels glazed. The windows are arranged in a regular pattern. The rear elevation also has a regular arrangement of windows, with some openings enlarged at the ground floor. There is a later lean-to addition to the basement and three cast-iron skylights.
The house has 12-pane timber sash and case windows and is roofed with purple slate. There is an apex stack to the north with a thackstane. The interior was not seen in 1994.
