Description
81 Castlegate in Jedburgh is a low, two-storey, two-bay end-of-terrace house that has been reworked in the late 19th century, incorporating earlier elements. The exterior features rough harling with tabbed cream ashlar margins and cills, as well as stop-chamfered arrises and a base course. The right bay is slightly displaced to the right and has a door at ground level, framed by a honey-coloured corniced ashlar doorcase. The first-floor windows are positioned against the eaves. The gable end is made of blank rubble with inserted windows on each floor, added by a roughcast extension. The house has four-pane timber sash and case windows and a brick gablehead stack topped with a single octagonal chimney pot, which matches that of the adjacent property at No 77. The roof is covered with grey slates.
