Description
71 Castlegate in Jedburgh is a two-storey, two-bay house built in 1897 by James Pearson Alison. It is part of a stepped terrace and constructed from coursed bull-faced cream sandstone, featuring tabbed ashlar margins and chamfered arrises. On the left side, there is a two-leaf panelled door with a letterbox fanlight, which is framed by a moulded and lugged architrave, a pulvinated frieze, and a cornice. Above the door, there is a single window, while to the right, each floor has bipartite windows. The rear elevation is made of rubble and has single windows.
The house features timber plate glass sash and case windows, with four panes on the rear side. It has a stugged ashlar faced and coped chimney stack, and the roof is covered with purple slates.
