Description
57 Castlegate in Jedburgh is a mid-19th century dwelling with later 19th century alterations. It is a two-storey building with an attic and features three bays. The exterior is made of cream snecked sandstone rubble, with ashlar margins and cills. On the ground floor, there is a pedestrian pend on the far left that provides access to No 59, with three bays that are displaced to the right. The central entrance has a deep-set glazed panelled door topped with a three-pane letterbox fanlight. On the first floor, the two bays on the right align with the ground floor, while the left bay has a bipartite window. The roof includes a pair of small piend-roofed slate-hunt dormers, and the end gable is blank.
The rear elevation features a projecting piend-roofed stair tower at the center. It has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, with 6-pane windows in the dormers. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are ashlar skews along with an ashlar faced and coped stack.
