Description
48 Castlegate in Jedburgh is a 17th-century, two-storey house featuring four bays and two projecting gables facing the street. The building is constructed of deeply pointed rubble with stone cills. The north gable is advanced by one bay and has a single window on its north return at ground level. The south gable is advanced by an additional bay, with a single window on its first floor and a blank south return. There is a single-storey porch located in the re-entrant angle, which includes a bipartite window facing the street and a door on the north side. Above the porch, there is a single window on the north gable, while the south gable has two windows at ground level and one above. The house features modern tilting diamond leaded windows, ashlar coped skews, and a gablehead stack on the south that has been recently lowered. The roof is covered with grey slates. Additionally, there is a low rubble boundary wall to the porch, which has been recently moved through 90 degrees.
