30 Castlegate, Jedburgh

30 Castlegate in Jedburgh is an early 19th-century house that has had an additional storey added sympathetically at a later date. This symmetrical, three-storey, three-bay house is built from coursed and snecked cream sandstone and is situated on a corner site that slopes down to the north. There is a band course at the ground level, and the house features windows in all bays.

On the northwest elevation facing Castlegate, there is a panelled door with a letterbox fanlight at the center, set within a pilastered and corniced doorcase. The flanking windows have blank recessed aprons. To the south, there is a recessed single-storey wall with a board door leading to the rear. The northeast elevation facing Abbey Close is a three-storey, two-bay section, with the third storey being blank. There is a single-storey, two-bay link to a projecting piend-roofed garage in Abbey Close, which has double doors at ground level.

The rear elevation is irregular, featuring stair windows at the center and a canted window to the left. The house has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, with 4-pane windows at the front on the first floor. The roof is piended and covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar wallhead stacks, one of which has been rebuilt.
