Description
Late 18th century with late 19th century detail. 4-storey, 4-bay (above ground) hotel with shops at ground. Bull-faced ashlar bands with contrasting stucco detail, ashlar quoins and raised margins. Ground floor cornice. Keystoned, round-headed door. Pedimented windowheads with thistle motif on each tympanum.
S ELEVATION: modern shop off-centre right at ground; bays to right with consoled cornice over deep-set panelled timber door and modern fixed display window to outer right; traditional shop to left with in-set centre door, flanking fixed display windows and deep fascia, round-headed door to outer left. Regular fenestration to each floor above, outer bays at 1st floor triangular-pedimented, inner bays with broad stucco panel worded 'ANCASTER' adjoining centre bays of 2nd floor, all 2nd floor windows semicircular-pedimented and smaller 3rd floor windows abutting eaves.
6-pane and plate glass glazing patterns to right bays at each floor, modern windows to left. Grey slates, traditional rooflight.
