Description
1 and 2 Millhill Farm Cottages, located at The Knapp, date back to the earlier 19th century. This single-storey row originally consisted of three cottages, though two have now been combined into one. The structure features two piend-roof additions at the rear and is adjacent to a slightly earlier cottage to the east, forming an L-shape.
The building is constructed from rubble with concrete margins around the windows and doors, topped with a slate roof and brick ridge stacks, one of which is rendered. The windows include single and paired 4-pane sash and case styles, and the eaves are bracketted.
On the south elevation, the gable of the original cottage is positioned at the far right, featuring a blocked ground floor window with a hoodmould and a blocked round-headed attic window, along with a window on the left return. To the left are three slightly later cottages, with the gable of the center cottage slightly advanced. This cottage has a modern multi-pane door, a blank round-headed attic window, a bipartite window to the left, and a single window to the right. The cottages on either side each have a gabled door at the center, with a modern door on the left and single windows to the left and bipartite windows to the right. The left return gable is blank.
The east elevation features a central door, a paired window to the left, and a bipartite window to the right, along with a low addition on the right return. The north elevation shows two later gables, along with various doors and windows.
