Description
Rossie Church is a medieval parish church that was abandoned in 1670. It was rebuilt around 1870 as a memorial chapel by architect T.S. Robertson. The church has a rectangular shape and is constructed of rubble, featuring a bellcote and a south porch. The north door is the only remaining medieval feature of the building.
Inside the church, there are several notable monuments. These include a tomb chest for G.H. St. V. de R. Kinnaird, dated 1838, which is adorned with Doric columns and an urn, replicating a similar design found in Malta. Other monuments include a recumbent marble for Victor Alexander Kinnaird, created by Thomas Campbell in 1854; a recumbent marble for Olivia Barbara Kinnaird, made by William Brodie in 1871; and a wall tablet and bust for Douglas Arthur Kinnaird, who passed away in 1914, crafted by G. Web Gilbert. Additionally, there are several other unsigned marble monuments and busts from the late 19th century, all attributed to William Brodie.
