Middle Cottage, Catcune Cottages

Middle Cottage, part of Catcune Cottages, dates from the late 19th century and is a single-storey terrace originally comprising three rectangular plan cottages, now converted into two cottages. The building features tooled squared and snecked rubble with droved dressings and has chamfered and stop-chamfered reveals.

On the southwest elevation, which is the principal front, the original three cottages are evident. The central cottage has a segmental arched window that was originally the entrance, with the door surround intact. To the right is another segmental arched window, and to the left is a bipartite window. The outer cottages each have a central segmental arched doorway with a panelled timber door and a three-pane fanlight above. To the right of these doorways is a segmental arched window, and to the left is another bipartite window. There are crenellated screen walls at both outer ends.

The southeast elevation features a gable with a lean-to addition at ground level, which includes four boarded timber doors and a corrugated iron roof.

The northeast elevation was not visible in 1997.

The northwest elevation has a gabled structure with a lean-to addition on the right, which contains two boarded timber doors and a slate roof. To the left, there is a small corrugated iron lean-to with a boarded timber door on the left return.

The windows are 12-pane timber sash and case style. The roof is covered in grey slate with a lead ridge and has coped ashlar skews. There are two coped ashlar gablehead stacks with octagonal cans and two ridge stacks, one of which has a circular can. The building also features cast iron rainwater goods, including hoppers and decorative brackets.

The interiors were not seen in 1997.
