Description

Colwyn is a mid-19th century, two-storey, three-bay L-plan house located on rising ground to the east. The building features re-pointed squared, snecked, and coursed rubble with ashlar sandstone dressings, and includes a base course. The windows have long and short margins, and the corners are accentuated with long and short quoins.

On the west (principal) elevation, there is a bracketed cornice above a moulded architraved doorpiece located in the central bay, with a window above it on the first floor. Each bay has a window on both floors.

The south (side) elevation has a single gabled bay to the left, a slightly recessed single bay projection in the center, and a further recessed lean-to bay to the right. There is a window set to the left in the bay on each floor, with a gablehead stack above. The center bay also has a window on each floor, and there is a window in the lean-to to the right.

On the north (side) elevation, there is a window set to the left on the first floor, with a gablehead stack above it.

The east (rear) elevation features a window in a single-storey lean-to located in the re-entrant angle at the center. There is a two-bay gabled projection to the left, with a single-storey lean-to in the left bay and a window in the right bay, along with a gablehead stack above.

The house has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a purple slate roof with a stone ridge and stone skews, and corniced rubble stacks on the north and south gables. The rainwater goods are predominantly replacement uPVC.

The interior was not seen in 1998.

The property is enclosed by low rubble boundary walls with a ridged cope on the west and south elevations, and features fleur-de-lys-headed cast-iron railings. There is a full-height rubble wall surrounding a rectangular garden at the rear (east), a lean-to rubble shed along the east boundary, and a boarded entrance gate along the south boundary.
