Description

Woodville is an earlier 19th century, 2-storey house with an attic and cellar, designed in an L-plan. It features a three-bay facade constructed from squared and snecked red sandstone rubble, accented with raised ashlar margins and quoin strips, and includes a base course.

The west elevation is symmetrical, showcasing a central bay with a corniced, pilastered doorpiece that holds a deep-set panelled timber door, topped with a plate glass fanlight etched with the name 'Woodville'. Flanking bays contain windows, and there is regular fenestration near the eaves on the first floor. Above the outer bays, polygonal-roofed canted dormer windows are present.

On the south elevation, there is a gabled bay to the left of center with a door on the right and a window on the left at ground level, along with an attic window in the gablehead. To the right, a slightly set-back lower bay features a window on each floor.

The east elevation has an advanced gable to the left, adjacent to a boundary wall, which includes a small window on the return to the right at ground level. There is a set-back face to the right with a small window in a low flat-roofed extension within the re-entrant angle, a stair window to the left above, and a single window to the right.

The north elevation displays a gabled design with a small attic window in the gablehead. The windows throughout the house are timber sash and case, featuring 4-, 8-, and 12-pane glazing patterns. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with cans and narrow bargeboards.

Inside, the house retains some moulded cornices and working timber shutters, along with panelled timber doors and architraves. A winding staircase leads to the landing, which is adorned with decorative cast-iron balusters. Timber fireplaces are found on the first floor and attic, some featuring cast-iron grates and tiled cheeks.

The property is enclosed by semicircular-coped rubble boundary walls, which include a large fireplace and semicircular oven set into the wall at the northeast angle. Low saddleback-coped rubble boundary walls with inset railings and a gate are also present, along with flat-coped square-plan ashlar gatepiers.
