Description
1837 with later wing. 2-storey and attic, 3-bay, rectangular-plan public house, former coaching inn, with dwelling above, on prominent corner site. Harled with painted quoin strips and margins. Base and eaves courses.
NE (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical. Timber door to centre bay at ground with windows in flanking bays, regular fenestration to 1st floor and canted slate-hung dormer windows over outer bays with small rooflight to centre. 2-bay lower wing to outer right with door below window at left and projecting bay to right with door and adjacent altered window at ground, single window at 1st floor under piended roof.
SE (BOAT BRAE) ELEVATION: broad gabled bay with timber door and plate glass fanlight to outer right and single window to outer left, 2 large windows to 1st floor and broad gablehead stack.
SW (REAR) ELEVATION: ground floor detail obscured by boundary wall, 1st floor with large window to each outer bay and enclosed forestair (altered) to centre.
12- and 18-pane glazing patterns in timber sash and case windows; plate glass glazing to ground SE and dormer windows, also in timber sash and case windows. Graded grey slates; modern tiles to extension. Coped harled stacks with full-complement of clay cans.
