Description
The Drumtochty Tavern, located in Harrietfield, is an early 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay public house with a single-storey rubble wing to the east, set in a rural area. The building is painted and rendered, featuring rectangular window openings.
The south elevation, which is the principal facade, shows the public house on the left in a symmetrical arrangement. It has a central porch with a pediment, which is glazed on the right. There is a central panelled timber door that leads to a two-leaf boarded internal door, flanked by window openings. The upper storey has three window openings positioned close to the wallhead, and there is a timber inn sign located in the upper left. To the right, there is a single-storey, two-bay wing.
On the north elevation, which is the rear, there is a single central window opening on the upper storey of the public house and a long, rectangular window opening on the ground floor to the right. The wing features thick buttresses, and there is an advanced bay buttressing the two-storey block to the left.
The interior, partially seen in 2007, is thought to retain its original room plan, with public bars on the ground floor and residential accommodation above. The bar walls are lined with timber panelling, and there are brick fireplaces. The bar, located to the right, has a timber panelled ceiling and a 1960s curved bar with a brass water tap, along with a gantry that includes glass shelving and drawers.
The building predominantly features two-over-two pane timber sash and case windows. The house is covered with grey slates, while the wing has purple slates, and there are brick gablehead stacks.
