Description
Mount Ericht Lodge is a classical lodge house located on Balmoral Road in New Rattray, dating from the earlier to mid-19th century, with a rear extension added in the late 20th century. The building is single storey and has a three-bay, L-plan layout with a piend roof. It features stugged ashlar stonework, raised quoins, and architraved windows, along with a deep base course, eaves cornice, and blocking course. The entrance includes a segmental-headed door with bracketted cills, keystones, and stone mullions.
On the northeast elevation, the L-plan design includes a pilastered porch situated in the re-entrant angle at the center bay, featuring a modern timber door with a segmental fanlight and a narrow light to the right. To the right is a set-back bay with a single window, while to the left is an advanced bay with a bipartite window.
The northwest elevation, facing the drive, shows a bipartite window on the original single bay elevation, with a later set-back bay to the right. The southwest elevation is obscured by the extension, and the southeast elevation abuts a neighboring property.
The lodge is fitted with aluminium double glazing throughout and has a roof covered with grey slates. It features a coped ashlar ridge stack with a single polygonal chimney can.
The property is surrounded by low saddleback-coped boundary walls that incorporate decorative ironwork railings. There are two pairs of square-section ashlar gatepiers; one pair to the southeast has flat coping with a decorative ironwork pedestrian gate, while the pair to the northwest has flat coping on the left and pyramidal coping on the right, flanking fixed railings.
