Description

108A Victoria Street in Stromness is an earlier 19th century house that has undergone later alterations and additions. It is a two-storey, five-bay, rectangular-plan asymmetrical house featuring a single-storey pitched addition and a slipway to the east. The exterior is made of pointed, roughly coursed rubble.

On the south elevation, which is the principal elevation, there is a deep-set timber panelled door at ground level located in the bay to the left of centre, with a window above it on the first floor. There is another window on the first floor in the outer left bay, and a window at ground level in the central bay. Additionally, there is a window at each floor in the bay to the right of centre, and a window at ground level in the outer right bay.

The east elevation, facing the sea, features a timber-framed single-storey addition offset to the right at ground level, a central enlarged window on the first floor, and a gablehead stack above. The first-floor windows are 8-pane timber sash and case, while the ground floor has small pane timber windows with top-hung upper lights. The roof is covered with purple Welsh slate, has a stone ridge, concrete skews, and rubble corniced gablehead stacks on both the east and west sides. The property also includes cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 1997. The quay and slipway feature Caithness flagstones leading to a small rectangular-plan quay, with a rubble slipway extending from the northeast angle.
