Description
The Estates Office in Brodick is a late 19th-century building that was originally a manse, though part of it has been demolished. It features a mix of single and two-storey sections with an irregular plan. The single-storey part is square in shape and has a piended U-plan roof, while the two-storey tower is canted at the front and rear, also with a piended roof. The exterior is made of stugged and snecked red sandstone with polished dressings, and it has a slate roof adorned with terracotta ridge tiles. The tower has moulded cast-iron rainwater gutters.
The building includes projecting three-light windows, some of which have had their mullions removed, and stained glass panels at the top, all set beneath deep eaves. The first floor of the tower features canted windows, and there are margined angles along the walls. A deep terracotta tile diaper work band runs along the wallhead and at the first-floor windows, with paired diamond ridge stacks completing the roofline.
On the front elevation, the tower is recessed to the left, with a panelled door at the centre framed by a pedimented doorcase, and a full-width window above it. The main block advances to the right, featuring two symmetrically placed windows, with two similar windows on the right return elevation.
The rear elevation has two windows on the left side and a window at the first floor of the tower on the right, while the right return elevation is blank due to rendering after part demolition.
The interior of the building does not have any special features.
