Description
Rosa Bridge is an early 19th-century road bridge spanning the Rosa burn. It features two round-headed arches, with a widening to the south. The bridge is constructed from stugged red sandstone, using random rubble on the north side and coursed stone to the south. Three cut-waters are present on the north side, and one on the south, the latter featuring a bull-faced base course. The intrados (the interior curve of the arch) has a bull-faced base course, and the bridge is finished with saddleback-coped parapets, incorporating a segmental pediment at the centre. There are three flood tunnels located on the eastern side. According to W. M. Mackenzie, this bridge represents the earliest known stone bridge on the Isle of Arran.
