Irvine Baptist Chapel, Bank Street, Irvine

Irvine Baptist Chapel, built in 1878, is a Greek Revival chapel. It features rubble sides and rear, while the front is made of ashlar with a base course, dividing pilasters, an impost course, channelled voussoirs, and an ashlar eaves course. The front has round-arched openings.

The central entrance has paired doors flanked by columns with crocketed capitals. Above the doors is a 3-light arcaded window with colonnette-mullions and annulets on the sides. The gablehead includes a carved semicircular panel and a large anthemion finial at the apex. The flanking bays have tall windows with cills at the same level as the doors.

The side elevations have a blank bay towards the rear and four tall windows on the remaining section. The rear features a wheel window in the chimney-headed gable and a border-glazed window.

The chapel has horizontal-pane windows with plate glass panes in the lower sections of the taller windows beneath the loft gallery. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there is a brick stack on the rear gable, along with remains of former metal ridge ventilators.

The interior was not seen in 1996.
