Description
The cemetery on Dalry Road in Largs features a lodge likely designed in 1886. This single-storey building has a cruciform plan and is constructed from stugged ashlar with polished dressings. The southwest elevation consists of three bays, with a pointed-headed door located in the right bay, accessed by steps. The center bay is boldly advanced and contains three cusped lights, while the left bay, which has been altered, is harled and includes a door behind a wooden porch and a single window.
On the southeast elevation, there is a single cusped window to the right, and the advanced gable features a central semi-circular projecting window with three pointed-headed lights and a semi-conical slate roof, along with a tiny trefoil opening to the left. The building has bracketed eaves, a prominent central stack, and a slate roof.
The cemetery walls are made of stugged ashlar, complemented by polished ashlar square gatepiers. The entrance features heavy decorative cast-iron gates and railings with a cusped and foiled pattern. The cemetery also contains notable monuments, including the mausoleum of Dr. Stevenson of Hailie designed by architect J. J. Stevenson, the arcaded Burrel family enclosure, and the 'art nouveau' McNair headstone.
