Haylie House, Irvine Road, Largs

Haylie House is a 2-storey and attic house built in the late 19th century, with its foundation stone laid in November 1885. The house features a harled exterior with ashlar dressings and has low, later 19th century rubble-built outbuildings extending to the north.

The west elevation is asymmetrical and consists of five bays, with an additional gabled wing on the left side. There is a 2-storey, off-centre, semi-circular bay that has three windows on each storey, with central bipartites and a pierced bracketed balcony above the first-floor window. The entrance is located in a 3-storey tower at the left re-entrant angle, featuring a door with a bracketed cornice, a single window above, and bipartite windows on each face of the top storey.

The house has broad projecting eaves supported by paired brackets and a piended slate roof topped with an iron finial. The two outer right bays contain bipartites in the outer bay, with a bracketed cornice above the ground floor window. All upper sashes feature a decorative glazing pattern, and the first-floor windows are all shouldered. There is a string course above the ground floor and a cill course at the first floor. All roofs have projecting eaves with paired brackets, and the piended slate roofs are consistent throughout the building.
