Description
The Battle of Largs Monument, designed by architect J Sandyford Kay of Glasgow, was erected in 1912. This tall pencil tower features a slight batter and is constructed from snecked rough whinstone, with an ashlar doorway, window dressings, and a conical slate roof. Above ground level, there is a decorative round-headed door with splayed jambs, each adorned with a figure and a crucifix above. The arch is flanked by plain ashlar blocks, and beaked grotesque beasts are positioned at the base of the door. A square ashlar plaque above the door is inscribed with "Memorial - Battle of Largs 1263." A cobbled walkway surrounds the base of the monument.
