Description

This early 20th century building, located at 82-106 High Street in Irvine, is a three-storey, five-bay department store designed in a castellated style. It features bull-faced and ashlar sandstone arranged in deep horizontal bands. The ground floor has a modern shop front, while the upper levels are characterized by a corbelled parapet.

The central bay, which is slightly advanced and made of ashlar, includes two windows on the first floor and a tripartite window on the second floor. Between these windows is a framed panel displaying the monogram 'CISF'. Above this, there is a crowstepped gable, framed by corbelled and crenellated bartizans, with a strapwork panel in the gablehead. Each side of the building has four windows on the first floor and a bipartite and a tripartite window on the second floor.

The windows are timber casements with leaded glass and fixed upper panes, featuring decorative Art Deco motifs on the second floor. The roof is covered with grey-green slates and includes studio rooflights. Additionally, there are two polygonal ridge ventilators with louvred panels, a red terracotta chimney stack with billeted gablehead, and clay ridge cresting.
