Description
Wildings is a four-storey, five-window department store building designed in the free Renaissance style. It is constructed of Bathstone ashlar, with yellow brick chimneys and a roof made of slate substitute. The five-window front is enhanced by pilaster strips, and a cornice featuring a Doric frieze of triglyphs and paterae projects forward beneath a central attic dormer that contains two round-headed windows. The pavilion roof is covered in lead, and there are iron railings at the front. The second and third floors feature camber-headed windows with original T-bar casement glazing. On the first floor, there is a large five-light display window topped with a dentil cornice. The ground floor has a mid-20th century double-fronted shopfront and a deep canopy. The rear of the building has large 20th-century extensions. The interior has been largely modernised.
