Description
The Public Halls on Aitken Street in Dalry were built in 1883 and feature two storeys with five bays. The building is constructed of ashlar stone, channelled on the ground floor and polished on the first floor, showcasing Renaissance architectural details.
The left side has two advanced bays, with the entrance located in the inner pedimented bay. The entrance features a recessed pilastered door topped with a stilted segmental head and a fanlight, flanked by two pairs of engaged Roman Doric columns that support a cornice. The first-floor window above the entrance has a balustrade and a consoled segmental pediment, flanked by two Corinthian pilasters that support a pediment adorned with foliated carving and a date, with a deer at the apex.
The steep mansard roof is covered in fish-scale slates and has an iron balustraded platform rising behind it. The ground floor bays have recessed windows separated by channelled pilaster strips, with a door located in the center of the three right bays. The first-floor bays are divided by pairs of Corinthian pilasters, and the windows feature consoled cornices, with a tripartite window in the left bay that has similar cornice detail. Throughout the building, there are sash windows with apron panels, along with a frieze and main cornice, all under a slate roof.
