Description
160 Argyle Street and 158 in Glasgow are four-storey commercial buildings dating from around 1876, designed in the Renaissance style. The ground floor has been altered, and the buildings feature three sets of six bays, with an angled southeast corner bay. The exterior is finished in painted ashlar, and the windows are primarily sash and case with four-pane glazing, all arched and topped with blind heads. The windows on the first, second, and third storeys are set within a keyblocked arcade, which includes panelled spandrels and pilasters that divide the bays. Each floor has cill bands and simple cornices. The buildings have a bold eaves modillion cornice, and the parapet is panelled and raised, featuring a segmental pediment above the central bay facing Argyle Street.
