Description

Wylie and Lochead is a four-storey, ten-bay warehouse and department store built around 1879 by William Spence. The building features classical details and has a modern shop front on the ground floor. Its facade is made of painted ashlar and is supported by a cast-iron frame. The entrance is highlighted by a coupled Corinthian pilastered doorpiece with a sculpted frieze. The first floor has plain pilasters, while a giant order of Corinthian pilasters rises from the second to the third floor, with a blind balustrade above the second-floor windows. There are sculpted details between the second and third floors, along with an entablature and a main cornice. The building is topped with a balustraded parapet and has a Corinthian columned interior.
