Description
The Ormidale Hotel in Brodick, Arran, is a mid-19th century single-storey and attic villa with an irregular plan and gabled design. It is constructed from bull-faced, snecked red rubble sandstone with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. The building has a base course and an eaves course, along with single and bipartite windows that have stop-chamfered ashlar jambs. The windows include 2- and 4-pane timber sash and case styles, as well as dormer-headed windows adorned with decorative bargeboards and finials. The skews are ashlar-coped and have bracketted skewputts, and there are tall, corniced linked stacks.
On the north elevation, there is a door at the center with a lean-to bargeboard porch, a bipartite window to the right, and two dormer-headed windows above, with a flat roof to the left. The gable on the left is advanced and features a canted window at ground level, a bipartite window above, and a decorative panel in the roof space. The east elevation has a large glazed addition that masks the ground floor, with an advanced gable at the center that includes a window at the first floor, and another gable to the left with a bipartite window at the first floor.
The west elevation has a blank gable to the left and a bay to the right with a window at ground level and a dormer-headed window above. There is also a single-storey bay at the far right that has been altered and raised to two storeys. Inside, there is a dog-leg stair with simple timber balusters.
Additionally, there are stable offices, which are a plain single and two-storey building made of red rubble sandstone with a slate roof, converted for domestic use. The property is also marked by two pyramidal octagonal gatepiers made of painted bull-faced ashlar.
