Description

6 Russell Place is an early 20th-century villa that has undergone later alterations. It is a two-storey, two-bay building constructed of bull-faced squared and snecked cream sandstone, featuring polished red sandstone ashlar dressings, with the southwest elevation harled. The villa has a base course and slightly raised quoins.

On the southeast elevation, there is a gabled bay to the left that is slightly advanced, featuring a half-piended three-light canted window at the ground level, with a window above on the first floor. To the right, there is another half-piended three-light window at the ground level, with a window above that breaks the eaves and has a gabled dormerhead. A single-storey porch is located in the re-entrant angle formed with the advanced gable of the northeast elevation. The porch has a door that is recessed to the outer right of the southeast elevation; it features a boarded door with wrought-iron hinges, a plate glass letterbox fanlight above, and a mullioned and transomed vestibule window with a gable above. There is also a window above the porch on the first floor, which breaks the eaves and includes a gabled dormerhead.

The northwest elevation features a border-glazed stair window in the centre and a harled single-storey addition at the ground level, also in the centre, with red sandstone bull-faced dressings. The windows throughout include six-pane upper cases and two-pane lower cases, all timber sash and case. The ground floor windows have multi-pane upper cases and plate glass lower cases. The roof is slate with exposed rafters at the eaves, and the wallhead is finished in polished red sandstone ashlar with coped stacks.

The interior was not seen during the 1995 inspection. The property is enclosed by boundary walls made of bull-faced sandstone with coping, topped with decorative wrought-iron railings. There are cast-iron panelled gatepiers for the pedestrian entrance and a stop-chamfered ashlar gatepier for the vehicular entrance, which has a pyramidal top.
