Description
Wooleys Bakers in Invercloy, Brodick, is a two-storey, three-bay block designed in the Arts and Crafts style by Sir John James Burnet around 1900. Originally built as two flats, the ground floor is now used as a shop. The exterior features harled walls with red ashlar sandstone dressings and a slate roof. The ground floor has doors and windows with ashlar lintels and jambs, while the first floor windows include ashlar cills, mullions, and lintels. The sash and case windows have a single pane at the bottom and multi-pane at the top, although most ground floor windows have been replaced with single panes. A notable feature is the full-height, flat-roofed canted window that breaks through the eaves at the coped and shouldered gable. The building also has corniced ridge stacks and cast-iron rainwater goods with bulbous hoppers.
The front elevation is nearly symmetrical, featuring a canted window to the center right, a door and window to the right with a linked lintel (though the door is a modern addition that is out of character), and a bipartite window at the first floor set in a wide recessed panel, with a similar arrangement on the left side. The interior has not been seen.
