Elder Cottage Hospital, 1A Drumoyne Drive, Glasgow

Elder Cottage Hospital, located at 1A Drumoyne Drive in Glasgow, was designed by Sir John James Burnet in 1902 and showcases English late Renaissance architectural style. The building is two storeys high with an attic and features an advanced facade with a 2-4-2 bay arrangement. It is constructed of stugged and snecked ashlar stone, with rusticated quoins and raised margins. A central columned porch is highlighted by a remarkable consoled arched hood and an elaborately sculptured door architrave that includes a monogrammed cartouche, along with a sculptured panel above.

The outer ground floor has bipartite windows set in shallow panels, while the upper floor features small-paned sash windows with top hoppers. A bold mutule cornice runs along the top, and there are gabled attic dormers. The roof is bell-cast, piended, and slated, breaking forward at the ends, and is adorned with simple finials and cut-down stacks.

The building has a five-bay flank facing Langlands Road and an asymmetrical rear elevation. It is enclosed by serpentine iron railings at the entrance, which rest on low ashlar coping and are complemented by corniced piers.
