Description

Sir John James Burnet, 1902-3. Edwardian baroque

single storey library with some sculptured detail,

serpentine front with wide shallow-curved portico on

paired Tuscan columns (doors in recessed area within),

diminutive roof dome behind balustrade. Outer bays

treated as ends of flanking ranges whose rear elevation

are pedimented, each with canted bay and oculus in

tympanum; 3 oculi in wall area between; 5-bay flanks.

Stugged ashlar with polished dressings, channelled angle

pilasters, deep entablatures, roof balustrades with

sculptured urns; segmental-arched windows with original

glazing. Slated pitched and leaded flat roofs. Interior

has deep mutule cornices, coffered and segmental-vaulted

ceilings.

Enclosed by decorative iron railings.
