Description
The former Hill's Trust School, located at 121 Golspie Street in Glasgow, was designed by James Thomson of Baird and Thomson in 1874. This building is a two-storey, L-plan school in a severe Italianate style, featuring a three-storey bell tower and a janitor's house. The exterior is constructed of ashlar stone with a rubble rear.
The elevation facing Golspie Street is two storeys high and has nine bays. It features a central arched entrance flanked by Doric columns, with an entablature above. There is a corbelled, balustraded balcony in front of a tripartite window on the first floor. Above this, the square tower has a blank rubble panel, which may have once displayed an inscription, and a belfry with louvres that are now blocked. The building has wooden eaves, a slate roof, and a weather vane. On either side of the entrance, there are four bays with eight-pane sash and case windows.
The north wing is two storeys tall and consists of six bays. The third bay on the ground floor features a tripartite pilastered door with a dentil cornice above it.
The janitor's house is a two-storey structure with a one-by-three bay layout. It has a central pedimented door, bipartite windows, and bipartite dormers with skewputts, all topped with a slate roof.
